Sophie Grégoire Trudeau discussed her new book "Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other" and the separation from the Prime Minister.
In a recent interview, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau discussed her new book "Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other" and the separation from the Prime Minister.
Talking to the Times, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau said she did not like to call the separation a "breakup" because it wasn't "one abrupt change."
"It's been years," she said.
According to Grégoire Trudeau, her book was completed and set for publishing before the split was announced. However in one part of the book she wrote, "Though we are no longer a couple, I know our shared sense of humor will always help us weather the storms.”
She noted that she and the Prime Minister still spend time together and are still close.
"We are still all hanging out together: we love each other, we spend time together. It’s organic, you know, the kids all sleeping together one night, that’s fine," she said.
"First of all, no life is perfect,” Grégoire Trudeau noted. "People may have a perception of one’s life and we have to be very careful about how we think we know public personalities. And I don’t see myself as a public personality, just that there’s a public aspect to my life."
Sofie and Justin Trudeau announced their separation in August 2023. In a post on social media the Prime Minister said, "Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate."
"We remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build," he added.
In the interview, Grégoire Trudeau said she was focused on living a normal life and was focused on doing yoga, and therapy and that she wasn't going to raise their kids "under the spotlight."
"We go to the park and I’m in my sweatpants, we run errands and we roll in the grass. And that’s my life. Then there is this other little part that’s quite unique," she said.
