Film director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found murdered in their home on Sunday, and their son is now in custody in connection with their killing. President Donald Trump, who was a frequent target of Reiner's rhetoric, blamed his killing on Trump Derangement Syndrome, also known as TDS.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said "A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.

"He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!"

Reiner released a documentary in 2024 about what he saw as the problem of Christian nationalism, believing that this led to the J6 riot in 2021. In 2025, Reiner said, "The Hollywood community is very much aware of their First Amendment rights being impinged," linking that to Trump.

In 2017, Reiner said Trump was "mentally unfit" to be president and went on to say that Trump was the "single most unqualified being to ever assume the presidency of the United States."

In 2024, Reiner said that re-electing Trump could turn America from a democracy into an "autocracy." In an interview with The Guardian, Reiner said, "We see autocracy making its move around the world. And so if we crumble, there’s a danger that democracy crumbles around the world."

"The foundation for it all was Christian nationalism, because finally they had found somebody like Donald Trump who they could funnel their ideas through," he said.

After Jimmy Kimmel was banned from hosting his show for a few days following his delivery of misinformation on the murder of Charlie Kirk, Reiner spoke out in support of Kimmel.

"This may be the last time you ever see me because... there's only a couple of us that are speaking out in this hard way. And I, we, hope and we know that there will be others," Reiner said.

"Trump has declared war on this democracy. He throws people out of the country without due process. He takes funds that were appropriated by Congress, refuses to distribute them, in clear contradiction to the Constitution, the separation of powers," he added.

Perhaps, as a parent, he should have focused more on his family. I’ve never liked Meathead’s politics, but I will always be grateful for The Princess Bride. No one should die like this. Sad.
