The United States may be approaching a turning point in its military operations against Iran. Donald Trump signaled the war with Iran may be “winding down.”

In a statement, Trump said that objectives have largely been achieved and that the administration is mulling over the option of scaling back from the war.

“We are getting very close to meeting our objectives… (1) Completely degrading Iranian Missile Capability, Launchers, and everything else pertaining to them. (2) Destroying Iran’s Defense Industrial Base. (3) Eliminating their Navy and Air Force, including Anti Aircraft Weaponry. (4) Never allowing Iran to get even close to Nuclear Capability, and always being in a position where the U.S.A. can quickly and powerfully react to such a situation, should it take place.”

“(5) Protecting, at the highest level, our Middle Eastern Allies, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and others. The Hormuz Strait will have to be guarded and policed, as necessary, by other Nations who use it — The United States does not! If asked, we will help these Countries in their Hormuz efforts, but it shouldn’t be necessary once Iran’s threat is eradicated. Importantly, it will be an easy Military Operation for them. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump added.

Trump’s statement comes as US and Israeli forces continue operations that have targeted Iran’s missile infrastructure, naval assets, and air defense systems. The campaign which started on February 28 has also focused on crippling Iran’s defense industrial base and eliminating the ability for the country to ever obtain a nuclear weapon.

The Strait of Hormuz is another concern the war. The president has called on NATO allies to help open up the key waterway as the Iranian regime has been firing shots at ships traveling through the strait.

As the war has raged, oils prices have increased due to a shorter amount of supply in the market. The administration has said that the increase will be temporary.
