Donald Trump leads incumbent President Joe Biden 43 to 41 percent in New Jersey, according to a new poll in the Garden State. The poll results come after Biden's disastrous debate performance last week.

According to the poll conducted by Republican super PAC United 2024, Trump is up two points in the state when there is a two-way contest between him and Biden. When the poll included third-party candidates Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Jill Stein, Trump and Biden were tied at 38 percent.

Senior United 2024 strategist Matt Mower said of the poll, "Voters have soured on the Biden-Harris administration and are ready to punish Democrats running down ballot as a result for their lock-step support of their administration." He added, “Joe Biden’s poor standing with voters trickles down ballot."

In the Senate race for Sen. Bob Menendez's open seat, moderate Republican Curtis Bashaw is competitive with Democrat Andy Kim, who is a three-term congressman and former Obama White House official. Kim leads with Bashaw by two points at 41 to 39 percent. Trump has indicated that he might make a play for the electoral votes in New Jersey.

The Garden State has not gone in favor of a Republican in the presidential election since 1988 and Trump lost the state by 14 points in 2016 and 16 points in 2020. New Jersey also hasn't elected a Republican to the Senate since 1972.

The poll was conducted on July 1-2 and had a sample of 477 registered voters with a margin of error of 4.5 percent. Other states, not usually thought of as GOP strongholds, have also started to show signs of shifting to Trump.
