"Best thing that could happen to the Republican Party? A Communist Mayor in NYC."
Trump shared a clip from Fox News talking about how the real estate industry in the city is "panicking" as a Mamdani victory appears all but secured. In the clip from "Mornings with Maria," anchored by Maria Bartiromo, Mamdani can be seen hurling insults at mayoral opponent Andrew Cuomo and calling for more taxes on New York City's rich.
Mamdani also slung some rhetorical arrows at Trump, saying that Cuomo is being supported by the same donors that funded the Trump campaign. Mamdani said that Trump "has reached acceptance" that Mamdani will soon rule over the city. Certainly, Trump's post indicates that he's on board with a Mamdani victory—though for all the wrong reasons.
Bartiromo interviewed John Catsimatidis, a local real estate mogul, who said that real estate owners in the city are concerned that their property values will drop under a Mamdani regime that freezes rents and overtaxes the city's millionaire class. Why would anyone want to make big investments into a city where they are targeted by government bureaucrats?
Speaking to the leftist ladies of The View, Mamdani said that his intention is indeed to bring in more money from the companies that do business in the city. "The corporate greed that we’re seeing in this country, it cannot be separated from the level of inequality that people are living through," he said.
The idea Trump proposed, that it would be better for the GOP should Mamdani win, is that the country—including Democrats—will see how badly the city functions under socialist leadership. With free buses, free childcare, and rent freezes offset by higher taxes, it could quickly become apparent that the city will go broke and that the wealthy don't want to foot the bill.
