Trump says the more Elon Musk, American companies succeed 'the better the USA does'

"I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE."

President Donald Trump has said that he does not want to take down Elon Musk's companies, but to have them, and other American companies succeed. This comes after the two figures had a public falling out over the legislation in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" earlier in July and June.

Trump posted to Truth Social, "Everyone is stating that I will destroy Elon’s companies by taking away some, if not all, of the large-scale subsidies he receives from the U.S. Government. This is not so! I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before! The better they do, the better the USA does, and that’s good for all of us. We are setting records every day, and I want to keep it that way!"

The post from the president comes after he announced this week that he does not want xAI to get government contracts. Trump has also threatened Musk's companies with having the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staff go through and evaluate the contracts given to Musk's companies like SpaceX.

In a July 1 post, Trump wrote, "Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa. No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”

The earlier post from Trump came amid debate over the "One Big Beautiful Bill," a major piece of legislation backed by Trump, that Musk viewed as being too much for the federal government to spend.

A few days later, after the bill was signed by Trump, Musk floated the idea of launching a third political party called the "America Party," to rein in government spending, which Trump later slammed, calling Musk a "train wreck."

The most recent post, however, may mark a lighter approach by the president in his relationship with the tech entrepreneur.
