President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to withhold federal funds from California over the state’s refusal to abide by an executive order signed by Trump in February barring biological males from women’s sports.

"California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow 'MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS.' This week a transitioned Male athlete, at a major event, won 'everything,' and is now qualified to compete in the 'State Finals' next weekend. As a Male, he was a less than average competitor. As a Female, this transitioned person is practically unbeatable," Trump wrote.

"THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS. Please be hereby advised that large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to. The Governor, himself, said it is 'UNFAIR.' I will speak to him today to find out which way he wants to go??? In the meantime I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!"

This comes after trans-identified male athlete AB Hernandez took first place in the long and triple jump events at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Masters Meet over the weekend, per Outkick. The wins qualified Hernandez for the state championships that will take place this weekend. Hernandez also nearly qualified for the state championships in high jump, missing the cut off by one spot.

If Hernandez had competed in the boys’ division, the transgender athlete from Jurupa Valley High School would have come in last place at the masters meet.

Hernandez competing against female athletes drew criticism from parents at the meet, with one mother confronting Hernandez’s mother. "What a coward of a woman you are. Your mental illness is on your son, coward," the mother said.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has previously stated that biological males competing in women’s sports is "deeply unfair," telling Charlie Kirk in the first episode of the California leader’s podcast, "I think it's an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that."
