Trump vows GOP will 'use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time'

President-elect Donald Trump on Friday announced that the Republican Party under his second term will work towards eliminating Daylight Saving Time.

"The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation."

"Standard time is Gods time," wrote Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec.

"Death to daylight savings time! Do you agree," wrote Elon Musk in response to Trump.

This comes after Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, co-heads of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, have called for an end to the twice-per-year changing of the clocks.

Musk wrote in late November, "Looks like the people want to abolish the annoying time changes," with Ramaswamy replying, "it’s inefficient & easy to change."

In 2022, the Senate unanimously approved a bill that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent, but the bill stalled in the House. The announcement from Trump comes as he is set go into office in the New Year.

Many have taken issue with Daylight Saving Time as some studies have linked it to more car accidents as well as some other negative impacts. Others have shown that there is a slight increase in heart attacks when an hour of sleep is lost in late winter.
