Since August 7, law enforcement officials in Washington, DC have arrested over 100 people. This comes as President Donald Trump has taken action to crack down on crime in the nation’s capital.

As of Wednesday morning, law enforcement officials have arrested 103 people, 43 of whom were arrested on Tuesday, a White House official told Fox News. In the early hours of August 7, some federal law enforcement began to be deployed to Washington, DC, including from the FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations. In March, Trump signed an executive order titled "Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful," which aims to "make the District of Columbia safe, beautiful, and prosperous by preventing crime, punishing criminals, preserving order, protecting our revered American monuments, and promoting beautification and the preservation of our history and heritage."

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers told the outlet, "President Trump’s bold leadership is quickly making our nation’s capital safer. In less than one week, over 100 violent criminals have already been arrested and taken off of the streets in Washington, D.C. President Trump is delivering on his campaign promise to clean up this city and restore American Greatness to our cherished capital."

Of those arrests made on Tuesday, 33 were for firearm offenses, 10 were related to warrants, 23 were of illegal immigrants, one was for a suspected homicide, and seven were for narcotics charges. A total of 24 firearms were recovered.

FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that on Monday, 23 arrests total were made. "On the first big push of FBI supporting [President Donald Trump’s] initiative to make DC safe again, FBI reported 10 arrests with partners." He added, noting the types of arrests made, "These are just a few examples — we are just getting started. Federal partners joined local police and arrested 23 in total. When you let good cops be cops they can clean up our streets and do it fast. More to come. Your nation’s Capital WILL be safe again."

On Monday, Trump announced that he was placing the city's law enforcement under federal control and deploying National Guard troops to the city to crack down on crime. "This is liberation day in DC, and we're going to take our capital back. We're taking it back. Under the authorities vested in me as the President of the United States, I’m officially invoking Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, you know what that is, and placing the DC Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control." He added, "In addition, I'm deploying the National Guard to help reestablish law, order, and public safety in Washington, DC, and they're going to be allowed to do their job properly."
