A University of Minnesota international graduate student has been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) saying the arrest came after a visa revocation due to a DUI.

The unnamed student was enrolled at the Carlson School of Management in the university’s Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. The school said that the student was arrested at an off-campus residence.

A senior DHS official told Fox News that the arrest was not in relation to anti-Israel protests across the country, which have seen other foreign students have their visas revoked, but instead due to criminal history. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the State Department has revoked the visas of around 300 foreign students due to anti-Israel protests.

"This is not related to student protests. The individual in question was arrested after a visa revocation by the State Dept. related to a prior criminal history for a DUI," the official said.

The school said that it had "no prior knowledge of this incident and did not share any information with federal authorities before it occurred" and is working to provide the student with legal aid and support services.

Carlson School of Management Dean Jamie Prenkert said in a statement that the school remains committed to its international students during a "time of uncertainty regarding changing federal immigration policies."

"Detentions like these deeply affect our community," Prenkert said in a statement. "From the very beginning of the University’s business school, our doors have been open to international students.  Faculty, staff, and scholars hailing from different countries have strengthened our research and classrooms—shaping us into the Carlson School we are today."
