US Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has revealed that her department has found that dead people have been receiving benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), as well as people receiving the benefits twice.

Speaking with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Rollins said that of the 29 states that complied and shared their SNAP data with the administration, her department has found that a "staggering" 5,000 dead people have been receiving the benefits, and 500,000 people were "getting benefits two times under the same name."

Additionally, she said that 80 percent of those on SNAP in those states were able-bodied Americans, "meaning they can work. They don’t have small children at home, they’re not taking care of an elderly parent. They can work, and they choose not to work, of course, because they’re getting significant benefits from the taxpayer."

Rollins said that there were "very big announcements coming next week," and that the department is "cracking down" on benefit fraud. "We now have a plan to fix it and we’re really, really excited about doing that for the American people."

Rollins wrote on social media, "Enough is enough."

“SNAP fraud is out of control and hardworking Americans are footing the bill. In the states that shared their data, there were well over half a million cases of fraud — and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Why are other states suing us for asking for the data? What are they hiding? Taxpayers deserve honesty. They deserve accountability. And it’s time for a historic crackdown to finally protect your money and not reward fraud!” Rollins added.

While 29 states complied and shared their SNAP data with the administration, 21 states refused to do so. Two of those states that refused to share data sued the administration over the matter.

Earlier in February, Rollins revealed that under the Trump administration, around 700,000 people have been removed from the program, and 118 arrests have been made in connection to fraud investigations. “We increased almost 40 percent on this program in just a couple of years under the Biden administration,” Rollins said, referring to SNAP enrollment.
