"No more quotas, no more ridiculous mumbo jumbo, no more diversity trainings," he said. "We believe the real strength and the real diversity in the United States Marine Corps is that you all come from every walk of life, come from every corner of America, and you have got the strength and the purpose to win the nation’s wars."
As the vice president took to the stage at Quantico on Wednesday, he was greeted with thunderous applause from the Marines at the base. During the speech, he said that across the country, there has been a “renewed commitment to excellence” as well as a “renewed sense of patriotism” for America.
Awaiting the speech, some Marines spoke to the Daily Wire's Mary Margaret Olohan, expressing their excitement to see Vance, several of them commenting about how it was good to see a former Marine being represented as “second in charge” of the administration.
"It’s definitely going to be a breath of fresh air to have a Marine second in charge,” one said. Another said that he loved to “see the Marine Corps representing the United States in the White House.”
In addition to speaking to the Marines, Vance was able to fire off three different guns during his visit, using an M27, M107 and an M240B. He also shot off an inert Howitzer as well as a drone, according to Fox News.
The visit comes as recruitment in the military has been hitting record highs after President Donald Trump as well as Vance’s win in November.
