Prior to President Biden's State of the Union address Tuesday night, political leaders and their significant others hobnobbed with one another in the House chamber. While most interactions were friendly in nature, some took it to the next level.
Among those who really spread the love were First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who shared a smooch that can only be described as strange. The pair appeared to lean in and kiss one another on the lips as oblivious onlookers clapped along.
Before her husband started talking on stage, Mrs. Biden made her way through the crowd and stopped to greet Emoff. When she extended her hand, he pulled her closer, and the two leaned in for a kiss on the lips.
While the kiss only lasted for a second, it sent shockwaves through Twitter, with many in disbelief over what they'd just seen.
Outkick's Clay Travis called it a "heck of a hello kiss."
"Find you a woman that kisses you like Jill Biden kisses other women’s husbands," another user quipped.
Another joked that he "didn't know US Capitol Hill had that Kiss Cam thing going on" during the State of the Union.
Benny Johnson posted a video showing Mrs. Biden complaining that there was no alcohol at the White House's State of the Union watch party.
"So you're telling me she kissed Kamala's husband on the lips SOBER?!" he asked.
It's unclear whether Joe and Kamala saw their significant others' kiss.
The rest of the evening went essentially as expected. Biden ranted about how Republicans were going to end Medicare and Medicaid, an accusation members of the GOP responded to with boos, then reminded everyone that this is the United States of America. His only major gaffe of the evening came when he referred to Tyre Nichols, the man killed by Memphis police, as "Tyler."
