On Monday, Washington’s Democratic governor-elect Bob Ferguson announced that he is creating a subcommittee in his transition team to combat Project 2025, which he claims will be put into effect by President-elect Donald Trump, per Fox 13.

Ferguson has chosen Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates CEO Jennifer Allen and King County Councilmember Jorge L. Barón to co-chair the subcommittee. Barón previously served as the executive director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

Barón said, "As an immigrant and as the proud parent of a trans daughter, I am particularly grateful that the Governor-elect is committed to protecting all Washington state residents, and especially those communities at greatest risk of having their rights attacked by the incoming federal administration."

Ferguson said, "We are preparing in case President Trump attacks Washingtonians’ core freedoms. We will keep Washington moving forward no matter what happens at the federal level."

Project 2025 was created by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, with policy proposals assuming Trump won the election. However, Trump disavowed the proposals and instead advocated for a party platform of 20 core principles that was put in place for his campaign and is very brief, compared to the over 900 pages of Project 2025.

Critics have slammed Project 2025, claiming it is Christian nationalistic, anti-LGBTQ+, and will ban abortions.

While he was Washington’s Attorney General, Ferguson was accused of being obsessed with President Trump, having filed almost 100 lawsuits against the Trump administration. During his first debate against his opponent Republican Dave Reichert, Ferguson repeatedly mentioned Trump to the point of being mocked by social media users.

Following his victory over Reichert, rather than discussing the problems facing Washington that grew exponentially during his watch, including homelessness, overdoses, crime, and lack of affordability, Ferguson dedicated his first press conference to outlining how he would push back against President-elect Trump’s agenda.
