With counts of absentee ballots still underway, Detroit poll workers covered over the windows so no one could observe their work. CNN called the state for Biden anyway.

However, vote counts continued across the battleground states on Tuesday after the close of the US presidential election, and Michigan's 16 electoral votes hang in the balance.

The large room where the counting was underway was full of workers and those who were observing the counting. The Trump campaign has already said that they would be demanding a recount in Michigan.

Earlier on Wednesday, there was confusion as to how the count was going in Michigan, as errors in the count and typos seemed to indicate that things were not going smoothly.

Though the counting is not yet complete, and a recount has been demanded, CNN has called the state for Democrat contender Joe Biden.

It was reported that protestors who wanted to stop the vote were endeavouring to push their way into the room where the ballots were being counted. Guards were reportedly blocking their access.
