Males that identify as female could potentially be sent directly to or transfer to all-female prisons, no transitioning required, under new legislation Congress is looking to pass.
Journalist and author of Irreversible Damage, Teenage Girls and the Transgender Craze, Abigail Shrier spoke with Fox News' Ben Domenech about the situation women in prison could potentially be facing if this California law goes national.
"Tell me a little bit about what's going on here, and really the concerns we ought to have about women in this prison system where they really, it seems like, have no way to appeal or fight back against this situation," asked Domenech.
Shrier, who spoke with women housed in the high security Central California Women's Facility, said that inmates are "terrified." Shrier had previously testified before Congress in opposition to the Equality Act for the very reason of protecting women inmates from male predators behind bars.
California already passed a version of Congress' bill last fall. Senate Bill 132 states that transgender people"be housed at a correctional facility designated for men or women based on the individual's preference."
"They're housed eight to a cell, their guards do not even have guns, they walk around with batons and pepper sprays because women are less violent, and men are already transferring in," said Shrier.
"There is no requirement. All that a violent male felon need do is self-identify as a woman and he is entitled in the state of California to petition to transfer in," she continued.
Domenech commented on how you "can have this kind of delusion" about the differences between genders, "then actually form a policy that can put women at serious risk."
"What can be done to push back against this?" He asked.
"Remember that this would violate the Geneva convention if it were done to prisoners of war. This is horrifying," responded Shrier.
"And it’s about to become federal law. If the Equality Act passes it will become federal law in all 50 states. Joe Biden already indicated that he would sign this bill into law. It's right now in the Senate, and really for the safety and bodily integrity of these women it really should be stopped."
"Is this even a debate we can have in the public square right now given the way the left is trying to short circuit the conversation?" Domenech asked, referring to backlash from high tech and corporate America.
"Well that's part of the reason I wrote the piece," said Shrier. "I'm worried that we're running out of time."
"And the reason is is right now is states that allow you to change your birth certificate, and we're already seeing this, we're going to lose track of the men who go into women’s prison," Shrier continued.
"They won't need to transfer in from men's prisons anymore they'll go straight into women's. They will be recorded as women, and their violence against women will be recorded as women on women violence. The thing to remember is that over half of men that are transgender are heterosexual."
