WATCH: Candace Owens takes case to HHS after being denied COVID-19 test over political views

"Why would you prevent somebody from complying with local COVID measures and trying to get a test and do the right thing? That doesn't make sense; it defies the science that [they] claim is so true."

Conservative commentator Candace Owens, who was denied a COVID-19 test due to her political beliefs, is planning to escalate the case by filing a claim with the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The original incident occurred on Wednesday in Aspen, Colorado, where Owens's assistant was instructed to book her a COVID-19 test. The assistant received a shocking email back stating that Owens was being "refused service" and that they "cannot support anyone who has pro-actively worked to make this pandemic worse by spreading misinformation, politicizing and DISCOURAGING the wearing of masks and actively dissuading people from receiving life-saving vaccinations."

The situation has even caused Owens's vocal critics, such as political commentator Frank Luntz, to tweet that "denying someone a medical service due to their political beliefs is not a path we should want to go down."

Owens later appeared on Fox News host Tucker Carlson's primetime show, explaining the circumstances in more detail Thursday night:

"First, I'm sorry this happened to you; it doesn't sound like America," comments Tucker. "Second, it's kind of ominous. Are we leaving anything out? Is this as clear-cut as it sounds?" he questions Owens on the matter.

"It's as clear-cut as it sounds," replies Owens during the on-air interview. "First and foremost, I'd like to not get COVID tested, but ... this is one of the only ways you can maintain your bodily autonomy right now. They're saying that if you do not get the vaccination, you're gonna have to get a COVID test to move."

"It's been two years of me traveling non-stop. I've been to three countries, 23 states. I don't have COVID-19, but I still have to test for it. And is this the first time I've booked a test, and somebody wrote back and said 'I'm refusing to give you this test,'" Owens explains. "Why would you prevent somebody from complying with local COVID measures and trying to get a test and do the right thing? That doesn't make sense; it defies the science that [they] claim is so true."

Carlson points out that it's against federal regulations for someone to arrive in the country sick and be denied medical service and then asks about the legality of the situation, to which Owens replies that she is looking into it, as it also appears that the clinic who denied her is a recipient of federal funding.

Owens continues: "This is not about health anymore. This is about politics. These people are sadistic. They are sadists. They like fear. They like to manipulate you. They like control." She says that "I'm following the law; I'm being a good citizen. What she is doing is something entirely different. She's being a radical; she's being a leftist. And she is, in fact, an activist, not a healthcare worker."

Tucker responds: "Yeah. You can't get a COVID test; you can't get a credit card. This is getting really really dark. I just hope Republican members of Congress who still have some power will stand up for their voters."
