Disturbing footage has emerged from a Chicago May Day demonstration on Friday where left wing groups and antifa converged to protest in the streets outside a non-profit organization.

A video shows incendiary devices that appear to be flares being set off by protestors. One flare is set off and lands inches away from a young child. The mother can be seen dragging her daughter away from the lit flare a couple of feet and continues participating in the protest.

The May Day protest focused on the Chicago location of Heartland Alliance, an organization that describes itself as "one of the world's leading anti-poverty organizations focused on ending poverty through housing, healthcare, jobs and justice."

Left-wing groups have targeted Heartland, calling it a "prison" and demanding the release of children after there were recent positive COVID-19 tests at shelters run by the organization.

According to WGN, "One protester got on the roof of the migrant children’s shelter. Police attempted to bring him down with a fire truck ladder. He grabbed hold of the ladder and officers tackled him to the ground."

Police broke up the protest around 6pm on Friday.
