"It is completely inexcusable—I have no idea of a prime minister of this country can sit back and let this happen," said Singh.

New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to create a plan that will guide the Canada out of the COVID-19 pandemic during a virtual press conference on Thursday.

Singh specifically pointed to Trudeau's complete lack of leadership during the initial Ottawa convoy, and now at several border crossings, including the busiest border crossing in North America by trade volume, the Ambassador Bridge that connects Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario.

"It is completely inexcusable—I have no idea of a prime minister of this country can sit back and let this happen," said Singh.

"The prime minister of a G7 nation can't solve this? The prime minister of one of the wealthiest countries in the world can't make sure people are safe in the nation's capital? Can't make sure people don't feel abandoned, and that our borders are open?" he added.

Singh said that Canadians were fed up with politicians dodging responsibility, adding that people "don't want to hear the excuse of jurisdiction" when problems arise.

"And there's disputes by the prime minister and the Liberal government federally about who's responsible for the border. I'm pretty sure the border of a country falls squarely the responsibility of the federal government. And either way, in a crisis, people don't want to hear the excuse of jurisdiction. People are fed up, and we need to immediately seek leadership to fix this," said Singh.

Singh also said that Canada's healthcare system needed fixing, saying that the Canadians would not be able to move on from the pandemic with a "fragile" healthcare system.

"It is inexcusable, two years into this pandemic, that our healthcare system remains so fragile. It should've become stronger, more resilient, better equipped to deal with the pandemic. Not continually pushed to the brink of collapse," he said.
