Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said on Monday that she was prevented from passing needed coronavirus legislation because her colleagues' religious beliefs.

"We didn't do it, we couldn't pass legislation until now. Because the administration simply did not believe in testing, tracing, treatment, wearing masks, sanitation, separation, and the rest, scientific approach.

"It's become clear to us now that they believed in herd immunity. Quackery, springing right from the Oval Office. And not denied sufficiently by some of the CDC and the rest.

"So now we have a vaccine and that gives us hope. A vaccine that springs from science. People say around here sometimes 'I'm faith-oriented so I don't believe in science.' And I say well you can do both. Science is an answer to our prayers.

"And our prayers have been answered with a vaccine. And in this legislation we have provision for it to be developed, purchased and distributed in a way that is fair and equitable and free."

What she said, however, isn' t actually true, and users on Twitter were quick to point that out.

"BREAKING: The Speaker of the House just lied on national television claiming, without evidence, that her colleagues say, 'I'm faith-oriented so I don’t believe in science.' Literally, no one says this."

Indeed, it seems impossible to find any evidence of anybody in Congress being openly "anti-science" in any way shape or form. Senator Rand Paul, for example, who does have a medical degree, disagree with Pelosi about what the definition of good science is, perhaps.

Firebrand Texas Representative Dan Crenshaw makes his cases based on scientific thinking.
