Conservative Shadow Finance Minister Pierre Poilievre put Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland on the hot seat during Question Period on Monday.

Poilievre asked Freeland about the 22 percent increase in home prices during her short tenure as minister of finance.

While Freeland attempted to deflect by bringing up the numerous methods introduced by the Liberals to save a penny here or there, Poilievre pointed out that it was those who wanted to start a family that were unable to buy houses.

Poilievre then asked Freeland a direct question, to which Minister Ahmed Hussen stepped in.

Poilievre would go on to ask Freeland once again, why housing prices had increased so much during her time as finance minister, to which she again deflected.

Currently, mortgage debts are equivalent to over 80 percent of Canada's economy. This means that a drop in housing prices could have severe implications for the entire country.

Canada's housing crisis is the worst in the world, besides that of New Zealand, which is just a fraction of the size of Canada, which is the second-largest country in the world.
