Poilievre to Trudeau: 'eliminate these mandates' and 'let the protesters go back to their jobs'

"While the rest of the world, and provinces across Canada are beginning to remove restrictions and mandates, Trudeau decided to pile new ones on, targeting truckers' livelihoods."

Shadow Minister Pierre Poilievre told Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday that he must lift the COVID restrictions and that this would end the protests nationwide.

"It's clear that Justin Trudeau has caused a political emergency," Poilievre stated.

"While the rest of the world, and provinces across Canada are beginning to remove restrictions and mandates, Trudeau decided to pile new ones on, targeting truckers' livelihoods," Poilievre said.

"And now, he's got protests right around the country. Now, he's dropping in the polls, desperately trying to save his political career and save face for himself."

"The solution is staring him in the face," Poilievre went on. "All he has to do is listen to the experts, do what other countries are doing, and that is to eliminate these mandates and restrictions, to let the protesters, including the truckers, go back to their jobs and their lives."

Poilievre said that he stands with "those peaceful and law-abiding protesters, including truckers, who are championing their freedoms and their jobs, while holding personally accountable any individuals who behave badly, break laws, or participate in blockades of critical economic infrastructure."

He said that his position has always been that he doesn't believe "you can gain your freedom by saying 'no' to somebody else's," meaning that blockades are unacceptable to him.

Poilievre said that the solution is very simple: to immediately stop the COVID restrictions and eliminate the underlying reason for the protests.
