The leftist mayor of Amsterdam issued an emergency order to shut down an anti-lockdown demonstration on Sunday. According to the Dutch government, public gatherings of more than two people are prohibited under the current COVID-19 lockdown measures in the Netherlands. As a consequence, Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema ordered riot police to physically stop the public protest.

Shocking footage depicts riot police beating protesters with batons. One disturbing video shows a police dog attacking and dragging a man. The German Shepherd is seen biting the protestor, who was then detained by the riot police.

Other footage depicts residents marching with yellow umbrellas, a symbol against the extreme government measures. Other images display a group in white overalls and masks, holding signs saying "It's Not About a Virus, It's About Control."

Fearing the Omicron variant, the Netherlands went into an extreme COVID-19 lockdown on Dec. 19. The Dutch government has ordered the closure of all businesses but essential stores until Jan. 14. Public gatherings of more than two people are also prohibited in the Netherlands.
