Ari Hoffman, a Seattle radio talk-show host, Seattle correspondent and associate editor of The Post Millennial, was interviewed by Fox News on Thursday about the city coun cil's latest plant to defund the Seattle Police Department.
Hoffman is asked, "What could possibly go wrong?"
"Well, given how much crime spiked already, we already know what can go wrong," replied Hoffman.
"Last time, they cut the budget by $46 million. They've lost over 186 officers last year. They are at the lowest deployable levels they've been for Seattle police since the 1990's. And meanwhile, the city has doubled in size. They don't have enough police to keep up so, when you call 911, there is nobody coming to help you."
When asked if those numbers are realistic or perhaps his sources "are giving you a different number", Hoffman answers:
"In fact, they tell me it's so bad that when they say that they're quitting or transferring, they have to make appointments with the quartermaster long in advance so they can give back their gear."
Talking about response times, Hoffman comments:
"For a priority one call – that's the really bad stuff – you're looking at over 17 minutes .... if they show up at all."
"This summer, they were saying they couldn't necessarily come because they were dealing with the riots in the Autonomous Zone."
"Are gun sales going up?" asked the interviewer. "Are people trying to protect themselves?"
"They're skyrocketing .... but what's interesting is gun sales are going up particularly to women. Women are the number one buyers and number one new buyers of guns in Washington state right now."
