Prime Minister Justin Trudeau falsely claimed that Canada had conducted more COVID-19 tests than the US has "in total," despite official figures saying otherwise.
Trudeau was discussing the country's plan to implement more testing from province to province when he stated: "We've done significantly more tests in total than the United States has, and they're ten times the size of us, so we know that Canada's testing regime has been good, but absolutely can get better."
But according to official provincial figures and figures reported by the White House, that is simply not true.
According to CTV's tally, which updates daily as new figures come in, Canada has tested a total of 378,814 people. This number is found by simply adding all the conducted tests from province to province to territory.
Yesterday, though, President Donald Trump had announced that the United States had surpassed two million tests across the country.
