Tucker Carlson slammed Texas Democrat lawmakers on Tuesday for their having fled the state in an attempt to halt the passage of the House's voter integrity bill, and took aim the Democrats' growing hysteria about election integrity laws.
"They committed what amounted to an act of insurrection," Tucker added as he compared the hypocrisy of the democratic legislators to the "stop the steal" rally in DC on Jan. 6.
"51 Democrats in the state legislature in Texas left Texas and flew to Washington DC on private jets," Carlson said.
"They did this in order to deny the Texas legislature a quorum, and then they shut it down. They shut down the democratic process in their state by leaving Texas. They, in other words, violated their sworn duty to represent their voters."
The intentions of Democrat lawmakers are "obvious," he said, as the majority of Texas voters overwhelming want voter integrity laws to pass to ensure the sanctity of future elections. The law also expands early voting, and removes pandemic-era allowances that facilitated less oversight during 2020 elections.
"Nothing in the bill is radical or without extensive precedent if you oppose voter fraud. In fact, it's all very obvious and not controversial at all. And that's why it's so popular with voters in Texas," Tucker continued. "But Democrats in the state don't oppose voter fraud nor critically do they believe in multi-party politics. So they stopped the entire process cold."
"Now, preventing lawmakers from making laws, shutting down the vote, would not seem like a defense of democracy. In fact, it would appear to be just the opposite. It would appear to be an assault on the very core of democracy," Tucker Carlson said, pointing out the hypocrisy of the democratic lawmakers.
"But according to Joe Biden, this time it's necessary. Sometimes you've got to end democracy in order to save democracy," Tucker exclaimed while referring to the President's proposed laws on voter rights called For The People Act.
Tucker Carlson went on to mock President Biden's statement where he said that requiring people to prove their identity when they cast their vote is "an unrelenting 21st century Jim Crow assault." In the case of the Texas law, those casting absentee or mail-in ballots merely need to put their drivers license number or the last four digits of their social security number on the ballot.
The Fox News host ended the segment by comparing Democrat lawmakers refusal to enact voter integrity laws to similar laws that were forced upon the people under socialist and communist regimes, in countries like Cuba and Venezuela.
