The Canadian Prime Minister said the country has enough on its plate to deal with right now.

While the American media is growing increasingly concerned about President Biden’s lack of press conferences, over in Canada Justin Trudeau held a roundtable with the press.

CBC's Tom Parry asked Trudeau: “how do you reconcile your support for the monarchy, with your stated desire to dismantle the legacy of colonialism in this country?”

Trudeau’s response dragged Canada: “There are many institutions that we have in this country, including that big building, right across the street from us, Parliament, uh, that has, and is built around a system of colonialism, of discrimination, of systemic racism in all of our institutions.”

For background: in September 2019 at least three separate instances of Justin Trudeau wearing blackface makeup surfaced online.

The Prime Minister had more to say:

“The answer is to look very carefully at those systems and listen to Canadians who face discrimination every single day. And whenever they interact with those institutions to understand the barriers, inequities, and inequalities that exist within our institutions that need to be addressed that many of us don't see because we don't live them. That's what fighting systemic discrimination is all about: listening, learning, and improving and transforming our institutions.”

The question related to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to begin with. In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey the exiled couple of England’s Royal Family alleged the institution that keeps the monarchy in order was systemically racist.

The pair and their son Archie stayed in Canada for a brief while, only moving to Los Angeles at the outset of the pandemic. On the grounds that the Royal Family called back security protections, and concerns over the border between the US/Canada closing.
