"People love that movie, and I think it’s time."
The movie had previously come under some criticism due to its use of “white face,” as the two brothers cake themselves in white make up and portray two white women.
During a recent red-carpet interview with Good Morning America, Wayans addressed one of the most frequent questions he receives from fans: “When are you doing the [White Chicks] sequel?”
“People love that movie, and I think it’s time,” Wayans said, according to the Independent. “So let’s get Scary Movie 6 done and then we’re gonna bring all the white chicks in.”
This is not the first time Wayans has expressed interest in reviving the film. In a 2021 interview with Variety, he discussed the potential for a sequel, stating, “I think we’ve tightened up so much that we need to loosen our ties a bit and laugh a little bit. I don’t think Hollywood understands what a juggernaut White Chicks 2 would be.”
He later told The Hollywood Reporter, “Me and my brothers have been talking. So if things go right, we hope to do a White Chicks 2.”
The Wayans brothers are also reviving the Scary Movie franchise.
Both Marlon and Shawn starred in the first two Scary Movie films, which they co-wrote and produced alongside their older brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, who directed both movies.
The original White Chicks faced some criticism for its use of “white face,” as the Wayans brothers applied makeup to portray two white women. However, Marlon Wayans has remained outspoken against calls for political correctness and has defended the film’s comedic value.
In a 2022 interview, he addressed whether White Chicks would be as successful in today’s cultural climate.
"I think they're needed. I don't know what planet we're on, where you think people don't need laughter, and that people need to be censored and canceled. If a joke is gonna get me canceled, thank you for doing me that favor," he told Buzzfeed. "It's sad that society is in this place where we can't laugh anymore. I ain't listening to this damn generation."
"You know who loves White Chicks the most? White chicks," he said. "That's how you know it's a good movie. For us, I think a good joke in comedy is when the people you make fun of laugh the loudest. And what's beautiful is that we're equal-opportunity offenders. It was a great exploration of gender, of race, of pop culture, and done with kid gloves so everybody could laugh. And I think that's what makes it a cult classic to this day."
