White House lashes out at Jeff Bezos in debate over soaring inflation

On Monday, the White House launched a verbal salvo at Amazon's Jeff Bezos, in what is turning into an ongoing argument over the government's inability to bring down the inflation that has recently been hitting hard all over the country.

Andrew Bates, a White House spokesperson, told people during a press conference that it's "unsurprising that this tweet [where Bezos criticizes Biden's idea to tax successful corporations more] comes after the President met with labor organizers, including Amazon employees."

The whole thing started when Biden tweeted: "You want to bring down inflation? Let’s make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share." Bezos took issue with that statement and quickly replied:

"The newly created Disinformation Board should review this tweet, or maybe they need to form a new Non-Sequitur Board instead. Raising corp taxes is fine to discuss. Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection."

Bezos has also already replied to Bates's statements, after having quickly been made aware of them. He tweeted on Monday, posting a screenshot of Bates's statement and replying:

"Look, a squirrel! This is the White House’s statement about my recent tweets. They understandably want to muddy the topic. They know inflation hurts the neediest the most. But unions aren’t causing inflation and neither are wealthy people.  Remember the Administration tried…"
