Whitmer and Wolf say votes in Michigan and Pennsylvania won't be fully counted today

Michigan and Pennsylvania's governors, as well as Philadelphia's mayor, have said that votes won't be counted by Election Day, and may take "days" to count.

Both Michigan and Pennsylvania's governors, as well as Philadelphia's mayor, have gone on record as saying that votes will not be counted by the end of Election Day, and may possibly take "days" to count properly.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney are calling for patience from their constituents as the votes are tallied, since absentee ballots are at record numbers all over the state.

"These are unprecedented times. Because of the coronavirus, there were millions of votes cast by mail so it may take longer than usual to count every vote. The folks in our election offices — your neighbours, family, and friends are working hard ensuring every single vote is counted. So it may take a little longer than we’re used to, even a few days, but that’s okay because it’s critical that your vote is counted – and it will be," Wolf said, according to The Hill.

According to local news outlet WVPE, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer also gave an interview on Tuesday, saying that Michigans final vote counts may take days after Tuesday's Election Day voting to complete.

"The volume of votes that are coming in is like nothing we've ever seen before, and it is going to take time to count. And it's more important that we get a count that is accurate than a count that is fast and might not be accurate."

Responding to the interview asking about people bringing guns to go vote, Whitmer said, "We have plenty of laws on the books that make it illegal to intimidate a voter as they go in to cast this most important of acting in our democracy, and we take it very seriously and we're going to make sure we keep people safe."

"We will continue to keep you posted. We will be very transparent, and give you regular updates, but we want to get this count right."

Both Michigan and Pennsylvania are essential states for both campaigns, and the outcomes of the general election, and the fate of the electoral votes, is greatly anticipated.
