Canadian legend William Shatner had choice words for the Lethbridge, Alberta police department after a video went viral showing the police force arresting a woman dressed full-clad in a Stormtrooper outfit, with a model E-11 blaster included.
The woman was arrested on May the Fourth (be with you) after citizens complained that someone had a firearm.
The following day, Shatner, partially-in character as Captain Kirk, tweeted a message to the police force, criticized the force for drawing their guns at the cosplayer.
"Captain’s Log Stardate 49: Sending my contempt this morning to the [Lethbridge Police] of Alberta, Canada [and the Lethbridge Police chief.] Rifles drawn for a plastic toy Cosplayer? Didn’t comply right away? Are you blind Chief? Watch the video to see how quickly she complied. This cannot be covered up," tweeted Kirk—erm, Shatner.
When some on Twitter pointed out that the gun looked somewhat realistic, Shatner pointed out that officers still had guns pointed at the trooper while she was on her knees."
"When she's on her knees and the officer has his rifle ready to shoot; he is a mere few feet from the gun. If he couldn't see it was a toy he should retire, yet they continued and slammed her to the ground and bloodied her nose," said Shatner.
Shatner then went all out, digging up dirt on the police force, who Shatner says have "a history of inhumane and violent acts on innocents and their investigations cast a blind eye to video evidence."
Shatner likely has a soft spot for the Stormtrooper gag, as he himself dressed as one during the 2015 Country Music Awards.
An investigation has been launched regarding the Stormtrooper incident, police say.
