He and his wife describe themselves as a "passionate plant-powered couple."
Joe Gow, the ex-chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse who was fired from his position after sharing explicit videos of himself and his wife online said that he and his wife have lost friends ever since their activities were "outed" to the public.
The X-rated adult films featured their love for vegan cooking, and caused social strife for the couple after Gow was suspended from his position in December after the clips came to light, The Times reports.
"It’s fascinating — before this I was someone you admired and now I’m someone who is reviled, it’s just a really unusual thing," Gow explained.
He added, "Some people we talk to are curious and others are like 'I’ll never talk to you again.'"
"It’s been very saddening to see some people abandoning us. We’ve lost friends."
Gow's said that her mother was not "super-excited" at hearing about their escapades. "The family reaction is a challenge," she told reporters.
Gow and his wife, Carmen Wilson, have described themselves as a "passionate plant-powered couple." The two started putting up videos on their "Sexy Happy Couple" account on YouTube in early December, posting footage of vegan recipe prep.
A YouTube channel description for Gow and Wilson's content stated: "A plant-powered couple make delicious vegan food with top adult stars. Great conversation, and more!"
The couple also posts other, more explicit videos on LoyalFans as well as OnlyFans, according to the outlet. Other websites they have posted to include popular pornographic websites Pornhub and xHamster.
A YouTube video the "passionate plant-powered couple" filmed alongside adult star Lauren Phillips sees the group engaging in flirty exchanges in the kitchen, with Phillips saying the couple was as "delicious" as the vegan pizza Wilson had just whipped up for her.
Upon previously being dismissed, Gow declared that his ousting by the university's Board of Regents was a violation of his "academic freedom," as he was exercising his constitutionally protected rights under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
"My wife and I live in a country where we have a First Amendment," said Gow.
"We're dealing with consensual adult sexuality. The regents are overreacting. They're certainly not adhering to their own commitment to free speech or the First Amendment."
Gow also said that he wishes he "would have had the opportunity to have a hearing" and that when "reasonable people understand what my wife and I are creating, it calms them down."
Gow and Wilson have reportedly published two books pertaining to their adult activities under alternative names, and characterized themselves as executives from well-known institutions in the United States.
In a book titled “Monogamy with Benefits: How Porn Enriches Our Relationship,” the couple ironically wrote that they are "fairly certain a scandal would ensue if our peers were to know about what we've been doing."
"We think our sex is beautiful and have no qualms at all about other people watching us make love," stated a passage of the book. "But our establishment colleagues likely would be shocked to watch us complete the full carnal process – particularly with professional porn stars – and we're fairly certain we'd be shunned in our community."
