A WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and the Minnesota Valkyries was briefly interrupted Tuesday night after a sex toy was thrown onto the court during the fourth quarter.
With less than a minute remaining in a 75-75 tie, what appeared to be a bright green dildo landed near the free-throw line after being thrown, visibly bouncing across the floor. The moment caused confusion among players and fans.
“Something flies on the court, I think there was something that flew from a fan on the court,” announcer Jacob Tobey said during the live broadcast, according to the New York Post. “This has been one of a kind… can they figure out who did that and get ’em out?”
Announcer Morgan Ragan added, “Even so, when you have a lime green item just kind of fly… that’s when the whistle should be blown because as a player you want to feel protected, you want to know what’s going on, and then there’s confusion on the at final possession.”
Tobey speculated that delays earlier in the game had left some fans “unhappy.” The interruption resulted in a timeout being called when Atlanta got the rebound. Police and arena security quickly responded by removing the object from the court, wrapped in a towel.
“Police and security are headed to the area where they’re going to try and figure out the fan, of course, everyone is going to point and nominate who it was,” Tobey announced.
As the camera zoomed in on the object, Ragan reacted with, “Oh my gosh, OK, inappropriate,” and added, “Get ’em out of here, whoever it is.”
It remains unclear whether the individual responsible was identified or removed by security. The game resumed after the brief delay.
