Yang was "kicked, hit, pushed, [and] mobbed by dozens" in the confrontation. In the video, she can be seen getting hit in the face with drinks and others hitting her while trying to take the sign.
In a video posted to Twitter, Yang held up a sign that was critical of common phrases that are used to be "gender neutral" towards biological women. It criticized phrases such as "pregnant person," "cis-woman," and "uterus haver."
The sign was meant to "stop female erasure" and compared these modern phrases with words in the past that have been used to dehumanize women such as "body parts," "subhuman," and "property."
A large group surrounded her in Washington Square Park and began to scream profanities in her face and wave pride flags in front of her.
As one woman pulled out her phone to record Yang inches from her face and attempted to grab the sign, Yang yelled out, "stop touching me," several times before others began attempting to snag the sign.
She was reportedly "kicked, hit, pushed, [and] mobbed by dozens" in the confrontation. In the video, she can be seen getting hit in the face with drinks and others hitting her while trying to take the sign.
Eventually, a biological male with red hair aggressively smacked and pulled the sign from her grip, to cheers from the crowd.
In a video posted on YouTube called, "No Pride in Femicide, Lesbian Erasure, & Child Grooming," Yang and others covered the pride events in NYC live.
During the event in Washington Square Park, where Yang was attacked by the mob, police officers also showed up.
Pride event participants can be seen running away from the area in a clip from NJEG Media after some said loud noises sounded like shots being fired.
According to another source, the participants were running away from a fight and fireworks had been set off during the event.
