The report came after Biden appeared to wander off confused in the middle of a parachute display at the summit.
Diplomatic sources told The Sun that Biden was "losing focus" at the meeting of world leaders in Puglia, Italy.
Multiple attendees from other delegations described the president's performance at the summit as "embarrassing." The report came after Biden appeared to wander off confused in the middle of a parachute display at the summit. Italian PM Giorgia Meloni steered Biden back to the group of leaders, who were watching as the military officers came down from the sky. Biden also gave Meloni an awkward salute upon greeting the Italian leader.
White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said that the report from The Sun was "lies" on Friday and touted the president's "successful leadership overseas advancing our national security," according to the New York Post. Bates also said that the video clip of Biden had been taken out of context, and that he was giving “a thumbs up” and saying “congratulations” to a skydiver just out of frame.
During the parachute exercise, Biden was flanked by the other world leaders, including Giorgia Meloni and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. After footage of Biden appearing to break off from the other leaders at the summit, Sunak told reporters on Friday that Biden was supposed to stay in line so that the G7 summit leaders could shake the hands of all those who came down.
“He just went over to kind of talk to all of them individually and Georgia [Meloni] was saying, ‘Don’t worry, they’re all coming to [us],'” Sunak said, per the New York Post. “We were meant to line up so they could come and then shake all our hands.”
Biden also skipped the dinner held for the G7 later that evening on Thursday. The report about Biden's condition at the summit continues in a slew of different reports that have had many Americans increasingly concerned over Biden's age and mental acuity.
