A teacher in King, a township in northwestern York Region, was arrested at his high school this week on charges related to child pornography on Wednesday, CP24 reports.

Robert Aurich, 46, was a teacher at King City Secondary School where he taught geography. He also coached the school's junior girls' basketball team.

Aurich has been charged with the possession, distribution, and accession of child pornography and was expected to appear in court on Thursday. Police did not state whether the victims in the pornogaphy were the age of his students.

While the school refused to say how long Aurich had been employed, he is on Ontario's "sunshine list," a list of government employees who make over $100,000 per year, indicating that he has been teaching for a while. Aurich is no longer with the school and the school is fully cooperating with investigators.

“While at this time, there is no reason to believe the charges involve any student at the school, we know the charges are concerning for students and their families and the school community,” reads a statement issued by York Regional Police. “Right now, our focus is on establishing supports for students and staff, including support through our social work and psychology teams.”

York Regional Police are asking anyone with relevant information to the case to contact them.
