"I wouldn't trust this woman if she stood on a stack of Bibles and had her tongue notarized," one resident proclaimed.
A town hall meeting in Dolton, Illinois on Tuesday devolved into chaos as frustrated residents expressed their grievances with scandal-plagued Mayor Tiffany Henyard, who has been deemed by some to be the "worst mayor in America."
While some were able to make it into the building, access to which was recently restricted amid increasing scrutiny over Henyard's actions, others stood outside and made their voices heard from there.
Among those who got the chance to speak face-to-face with Henyard was Cara Wilson, a mother whose daughter was shot by Dolton police. As Fox News reports, Wilson slammed Henyard for failing to look her in the eye when she spoke, suggesting she didn't "give a damn" about what happened.
Wilson went on to note that while her daughter had no criminal record, Henyard does.
"So let's tell the truth, which I know you're incapable of," Wilson said, referring to Henyard. "I wouldn't trust this woman if she stood on a stack of Bibles and had her tongue notarized, not a damn thing she says comes out her mouth is true."
Another resident undergoing radiation treatment for cancer went off on Henyard for allegedly stealing money from a cancer foundation the mayor herself established.
According to Fox News, the Illinois Attorney General has reportedly launched an investigation into the Tiffany Henyard Cancer And Remission Empowering Survivors (CARE) Foundation amid allegations that it was not transparent enough regarding its financial history.
Henyard has also been accused of weaponizing the police department to carry out "retaliatory business raids" and using taxpayer money to buy herself a trip to Las Vegas and luxury goods.
As NBC5 reports, the mayor has dismissed the allegations, and blamed the media for pushing "misinformation."
"Access to the Dolton Village Hall has been restructured to protect our staff due to the overwhelming amount of threats of violence as a result of the continuous misinformation portrayed by the media and internet bloggers who are using Dolton as a means to generate ratings and revenue ie. clickbait," the mayor's office wrote in a statement. "Our staff and elected officials have received several disturbing communications via email, social media, phone calls and visitors from across the country."
Residents at the meeting called for Henyard to step down.
"This has to end, I'm so disappointed in what's been happening in Dolton," one resident said. "Mayor, you need to step down because you have disgraced this village, you really have, everybody up there need to go. We need to know what's happening with our money."
