Young voters 18-34 moving to Trump over Biden: Axios poll

A poll recently conducted by Axios and Generation Lab has revealed that the gap between Joe Biden and Donald Trump among young voters is closing, with the former president gaining ground on his successor.

While the contest remains tight, a slight majority of Americans 18-34 prefer Biden.

According to the poll, 52 percent of respondents said they would vote for the current president if the election were held today, compared to 48 percent for his predecessor.

When only those who said they were definitely going to vote in November were asked, however, Biden's support rose to 59 percent.

The vast majority of those surveyed said the economy was their number one issue, and after four years of Bidenomics, it appears as though perhaps young people haven't seen the improvements in affordability that they had hoped to.

The poll was conducted among a representative sample of 1,073 18-34-year-olds across the country between February 3 and 14, 2024.

While many polls have shown Biden ahead of Trump with the demographic, a growing number are showing the latter beating the former.

According to a New York Times/Siena survey conducted in December, for example, 49 percent of registered voters aged 18-29 said they would vote for Trump, while just 43 percent said Biden was their guy.

One issue that young voters appeared to side against Biden on was his handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Nearly 50 percent said they believed Trump would do a better job on the conflict, compared to just 30 percent who said the same of Biden.

A full 72 percent said they disapproved of his handling of the situation so far, with 45 percent saying he's too supportive of Israel.

Trump, a staunch ally of the Jewish state, has vowed to stand with them as they stave off attacks from Iranian-backed Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, though it is unclear from the data what impact his stance has on his polling.
