Nearly 2 million illegal immigrants who have been given deportation orders or have criminal histories are still within the United States.

Per the New York Post, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been tracking around 1.5 million illegal who have been ordered to leave, and an additional 423,000 more who have criminal convictions.

Homeland Security sources told the outlet that the Trump administration’s mass deportation push is unlikely to result in the removal of all of these 2 million people, as the administration works on lowering the mountain of cases on the docket.

"That’s far more time-consuming to track down, surveil and arrest aliens. We have arrested a lot of aliens with removal orders just on random encounters," a source said, adding, "Also, just because someone has a removal order doesn’t mean we can remove them. At least not immediately."

“They may have been granted a stay of removal for a time period, they may be requesting asylum, they might be an informant, there are a number of factors that can come into play.”

ICE, in total, is monitoring over 7.5 million migrants who are not in federal detention centers.

Under the final year of the Biden administration, Fox News revealed that ICE’s non-detained docket had risen to 7.4 million. As a result in the surge of cases, ICE agents are responsible for managing an average of 7,000 cases each.

A source told the outlet, "There are too many cases that have been untouched." They said that the agency’s latest hiring spree "will help ... however, it would require all hands on deck."

In an effort to hire more agents, ICE is offering up to $50,000 bonuses for retired agents to return to the agency. ICE has set a goal to hire 10,000 new agents after the One Big Beautiful Bill granted $75 billion in new funding for ICE.
