On Sunday, two police officers and a firefighter were shot and killed while responding to a domestic call that a family was in danger in Burnsville, Minnesota. Several other officers were injured in the incident.

In a statement, the city said, "There is no ongoing threat, but due to the nature of the incident and the need to inform individuals and families involved, a statement will be provided at the media briefing with additional incident details."

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said that the suspect was also killed during the shooting.

Law enforcement has not released any information on what led up to the shooting, but there was a heavy police presence at the scene and an armored vehicle with bullet damage to its windshield, according to the AP.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said, "Horrific news from Burnsville." He added, "While responding to a call of a family in danger, two police officers and one firefighter lost their lives, and other officers were injured."

"We must never take for granted the bravery and sacrifices our police officers and first responders make every day," Walz said. "My heart is with their families today and the entire State of Minnesota stands with Burnsville."

Condolences poured in from neighboring communities.

The West St. Paul Police Department said, "Our hearts are heavy as we receive tragic news about the officers and paramedic fatalities and injuries in Burnsville this morning. Our prayers and support are with the Burnsville Police and paramedics, their families, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time."

"We are just now learning that two Burnsville Police Officers and a paramedic have been killed after a domestic call in Burnsville," reacted the Golden Valley Police Department. "Chief Green and the members of the Golden Valley Police Department are sending our prayers BurnsvillePD this morning."

Governor Walz ordered flags to be flown at half-staff starting Monday.
