On Wednesday, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador opened fire at a Chick-fil-A in Irving, Texas, leaving two employees dead. Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, 37, fled the scene but he was eventually arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder.

The victims have been identified as 49-year-old Patricia Portillo and 31-year-old Brayan Alexis Godoy. "We do believe this was a targeted incident and not a random act of violence," Anthony Alexander with the Irving Police Department said.

According to CBS Texas, the incident took place shortly before 3:45 pm at the fast food joint at 5350 MacArthur Boulevard, where Argueta's wife worked. The foreign national allegedly entered the establishment, took out a gun, and fired at the employees. Portillo was declared dead at the scene.

After allegedly carrying out the double murder, Argueta got in his silver Honda and drove away. It wasn't until 2:50 am the following morning that police finally caught up with him and took him into custody. He was transported to Irving Jail, where he remains.

As the New York Post reports, after being booked, Argueta had a hold placed on him by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It was not revealed exactly when and how he entered the country.

"Our hearts are broken by the tragedy that unfolded inside our restaurant Wednesday," the Chick-fil-A's local owner-operator said in a statement. "We will miss our two team members dearly. Right now our focus is on providing care for our team and the victims' families. I want to thank the Irving Police Department for their professionalism and compassion. We will continue working closely with them as they conduct their investigation."

Following the shooting, people began leaving flowers and photos of the deceased at the scene, and before long, a makeshift memorial had taken shape.
