A New York City man allegedly killed his 8-year-old brother and stabbed both of his parents on Thursday in an apartment in Queens, NYPD said.

The 20-year-old suspect was fatally shot by police after NYPD officers responded to the scene around 5:30 pm and found the suspect holding his father, 43, in a headlock over the kitchen sink with a knife to his throat, per the New York Post

Authorities were alerted to the incident after the suspect's 29-year-old mother, who was bleeding from stab wounds, ran outside the apartment and pleaded for help. NYPD Chief John Chell said, according to the NYP, "They gave repeated commands, both in English and Spanish, to drop the knife. He did not. One officer fired one round, striking the target, saving that man's life."

Both the suspect and his young victim brother were rushed to the hospital and later died from their injuries. Police are working to determine if they were stepbrothers or full-blooded, per the outlet.

The two parents are being treated at the hospital for their injuries. Authorities also found an 8-month-old baby in the bathtub inside the home who was left unharmed. The investigation remains ongoing and police have not yet released the deceased killer's identity.
