Just over half of Democrats, 51 percent, said that they don’t see a need to increase Trump’s security detail following the attempts on his life.
The Napolitan News Service survey found that overall, 17 percent of voters believe that the country would be better off if Trump was killed in the Sunday assassination attempt that was unsuccessful. Ryan Routh was arrested in connection to the attempt that took place at Trump’s Florida golf course as he was playing a round.
Among Democrats, 28 percent said that the country would be better off with Trump dead as the result of the assassination attempt. An additional 24 percent were unsure, while 48 percent said that America would not be better off.
Just over half of Democrats, 51 percent, said that they don’t see a need to increase Trump’s security detail following the attempts on his life. Among all voters, 62 percent said Trump’s security should be increased, while 32 percent disagreed.
Among Democrats, 49 percent said they thought it was at least somewhat likely that Trump or his campaign was involved in the assassination attempt Sunday, with 21 percent saying it was very likely. Among Republicans, 52 percent said that it was at least somewhat likely that the Democratic Party or Kamala Harris’ campaign was involved in the latest attempt, with 28 percent saying it was very likely.
Scott Rasmussen, president of RMG Research, said, "It is hard to imagine a greater threat to democracy than expressing a desire to have your political opponent murdered."
Rasmussen later added, "I continue to believe that America’s best days are still to come. However, for years I’ve been saying that things will get worse before they get better. These numbers suggest that the phase of getting worse is clearly upon us."
The poll was conducted between September 16 and 17 of 1,000 registered voters and has a margin of error of 3.1 percent.
On Sunday, while the GOP nominee was playing a round of gold as his course in West Palm Beach, Florida, suspect Ryan Routh hid, waiting for around 12 hours. When Secret Service (USSS) saw him a couple of holes ahead of the president, he had stuck the barrel of rifle with a scope through a chain-link fence on the perimeter of the course. Secret Service fired and Routh fled, only to be arrested later that afternoon. Routh was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
On July 13, at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, striking Trump in the ear, killing father Corey Comperatore while he shielded his family, and injuring two others.
