55 minors and teens arrested for massive brawl at opening day of Hersheypark as families cowered under tables

Dozens of minors and teenagers were arrested after a massive brawl broke out at Hersheypark on opening day, forcing families to take cover and hide under tables as the fighting took place.

A total of 55 individuals, ranging in age from 12 to 19, were involved in multiple fights around the amusement park on April 3, according to the Derry Township Police Department. Of those involved, 53 were minors. Authorities said the suspects were accused of various misdemeanor and felony offenses.

According to officials, two groups referred to as “group A and group B” were seen on video arguing in the park before the altercation became physical and turned into a full-on brawl at around 7 pm, just one hour before the park closed. Police were called, and the groups were separated before clashing once again at a food court, where families had to shield their small children and hide under tables.

Near one roller coaster, dozens of minors were seen grappling and punching one another, forcing park staff to temporarily shut down the ride.

Several of the teens were removed from the park, but police said some re-entered the park and became involved in another fight roughly 30 minutes later.

Officials ultimately charged those involved for “disorderly and assaultive behavior,” including assault, conspiracy, theft, failure to disperse, riot, disorderly conduct, and other charges.

“Our Department, including our Criminal Investigation Section, takes these types of public safety issues seriously, investigating significant time into cases like this one to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” the Derry Township Police Department said in a statement, according to Crime Watch.
