A surveillance video from New York City has revealed a disturbing incident where two masked men randomly attacked an Asian woman on the street.

The footage, obtained by the New York Post, showed the  58-year-old woman walking down Monroe Street around 2 pm, checking her cell phone, when two men dressed in all black and wearing masks approached her from behind.

One assailant is seen punching the woman in the back of the head, while the other pushed her up against a wall and began to beat her repeatedly with a baseball bat while the pair attempted to steal her bag. The attackers then fled the scene empty-handed, leaving the woman badly beaten against a wall.

The victim was treated at a hospital for swelling and bruising to her head. Law enforcement has not yet identified the two men responsible for this horrific attack, and it is assumed they were unknown to the victim.

This incident highlights the ongoing violence and chaos that has continued on the streets of New York City. In the past several months, there have been numerous reports of women walking in New York City being randomly attacked and punched by men. Over the past two years, misdemeanor assault has risen 13 percent in the city.

Last April, New York City Mayor Eric Adams attributed the rise in random attacks on women to TikTok trends that promote violence.

“It’s unbelievable that you see the corrosiveness of TikTok not only for teaching people how to steal cars, how to ride on top of subway stations’ trains. But just this pervasive, negative, anti‑social behavior,” Adams said in an appearance on Good Morning America. “And for a woman to walk the street…it’s unacceptable to be punched in that manner.”
