A gunfight that killed Dimarjio Jenkings in Toronto was caught on video and the footage reveals that bullets fired nearly also hit a mother and her six-year-old son who were bystanders at the time, according to City News.

The footage was released by Toronto police that shows the gun fight that resulted in the murder of Dimarjio Jenkins, a local rapper who performed under the moniker Houdini. The shooting took place on Wednesday just after 4 pm near the intersection of King St. and Peter St.

Jenkins was walking alongside some friends, including a 15-year-old boy in the area when a gunman donning a medical mask stepped out of a blue Volkswagen Tiguan began to shoot at them.

Two of Jenkins’ friends responded by drawing their own guns and began firing back in the direction of the shooter. Police allege that the 15-year-old was among those who were firing back. The boy was shot and sustained a non life-threatening gunshot wound. He is now in custody and facing weapons charges.

An innocent bystander was hit by a stray bullet in the midst of the shootout, however the 27-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.

A total of 23 shell casings and two guns were retrieved by police, confirmed Det. Sgt. Andy Singh. One gun was discovered in a nearby alley, which is the firearm that police suspect was used by the 15-year-old boy. Police also retrieved another gun that was used by one of Jenkins' friends. Police have yet to obtain the gun used to murder Jenkins however the suspect's vehicle was found in the York Region. Singh said it was a rental vehicle and had been burned out when they found it.

“(The boy) was exactly in the line of gunfire,” said Singh, adding how lucky both the boy and his mother were to have survived the shootout.

“This is unacceptable,” continued Singh. “We had a very young family in the area. Many casualties could have occurred. This was an active gun fight happening in broad daylight, there was no regard for life.”

Singh said they believe that Jenkins was a planned target although the motive for why remains unclear at this time.

“From what we have seen in terms of video footage, it’s a targeted shooting. I believe Mr. Jenkins was the target.” said Singh.

One of Jenkins’ friends was seen on security footage from a nearby business following the gunfight. Det. Sgt. Singh is asking that the public come forward to help identify him or provide any additional information.

“We are aware of the gangs that are out there … It would be speculation at this point, but we are looking at that. Right now it’s too early to say.” said Singh, regarding whether or not they believe the murder to be gang-motivated.
