Although many in the US are wanting the US to end the war with Iran, the agreement, on balance Americans say that the MOU drafted between the US and Iran was better for Iran at 37 percent as opposed to 22 percent saying that it was better for the US. 41 percent said the agreement was about equal for the US and Iran.
The plurality of Americans also did not see the conflict as successful. For strategic interests, 45 percent of Americans said the US was not successful while 29 percent said it was successful and 25 percent saying neither. For economic interests, 47 percent say it has not been successful, while 28 percent say it was a success.
The majority of Americans also do not believe that the US has achieved what was perhaps President Donald Trump’s primary objective: to permanently stop Iran’s nuclear program.
Only 31 percent of Americans say that the goal has been achieved while 69 percent said that it is not done. With other stated objectives of the war, including stopping Iran from threatening other countries, freeing Iran’s people, and changing Iran’s leadership to become pro-US, the majority of Americans do not feel any of those goals has been reached in the conflict.
Although the goals have not been reached, Americans polled say that they want the war to end as gas prices have increased. The poll showed that the more people worried about gas prices, they were more likely to say that the war needs to end now.
Despite wanting to end the war right now, the country is split on leaving the current leadership in Iran in place. 50 percent say it is acceptable to leave the current leadership while the other 50 percent say it is not acceptable.
