The ceasefire activist who threatened to murder members of the Bakersfield City Council made her first court appearance, pleading not guilty to all charges.
During her arraignment, Riddhi Patel was seen having an emotional breakdown, crying, and trying to control her breath as she faced felony charges for making the threats.
Patel was arrested on Wednesday after attending the council meeting where she demanded the council call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
"I don't have faith that you'll do this," Patel said to the council members. "You guys are all horrible human beings, and Jesus probably would've killed you himself."
Patel went on to tell the council members that she hopes “one day somebody brings the guillotine and kills” them.
“We'll see you at your house. We'll murder you," she added.
After her comments, Mayor Karen Goh responded, "That was a threat, what you said at the end, so officers are going to escort you out and take care of that.”
Subsequently following her threats, law enforcement officers intervened and took Patel into custody. She now faces over a dozen felony charges, primarily related to making threats with the intent to terrorize. Patel's bail has been set at $1 million, and she remains in jail pending further legal proceedings.
