"We can’t trust that he will do the right thing with that information."
On Sunday, Democrat Representative Adam Schiff said he hopes the intelligence agencies will withhold information from former President Donald Trump during the standard briefings that presidential nominees get from them.
In an interview with NBC, Schiff said, "I have to hope — and knowing the intelligence community, as I do — that they will dumb down the briefing for Donald Trump."
"That is, they will give him no more information than absolutely necessary, nothing that would reveal sources or methods,” the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee added. "we can’t trust that he will do the right thing with that information. He's been so reckless."
US intelligence officials revealed earlier this week that former President Trump would receive briefings on classified national security matters when he officially secures the GOP Presidential nomination. The briefings to major political party candidates have been standard practice for 72 years.
One Senior intelligence official recently told Politico that the agencies would brief the former president the same way it has for previous presidential candidates.
The official noted that regaining Trump's trust is among the greatest concerns for the agencies since the former president has criticized them while on the campaign trail.
Representative ScMONhiff was previously removed from his position on the Intelligence Committee by then Speaker of the House Keven McCarthy. In his reasoning, McCarthy said, "Schiff has lied too many times to the American public. He should not be on Intel."
With former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley suspending her bid for president on Wednesday, Donald Trump is set to become the Republican nominee for president. He will officially take on the role at the party's convention hosted in Milwaukee from July 15, through 18.
