GOP candidate and former major league baseball star Steve Garvey and Democrat House Representative Adam Schiff were the two top vote-getters in their Senate primary and therefore are heading to November’s general election ballot to finish out late Senator Dianne Feinstein’s term in California.

With 48 percent of the vote in as of Wednesday morning, Garvey has received 34.6 percent of the vote while Schiff has received 30.8 percent, according to the Associated Press.

Other big names in the race included Dem. Rep. Katie Porter, who received 16 percent of the vote as of Wednesday morning, and Rep Barbara Lee, who received just 9.3 percent.

Feinstein passed away in September at the age of 90, and whoever is elected in November will serve out the remainder of her term, which was set to end in January 2025. Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Laphonza Romanique Butler to fill Feinstein’s seat, and in October she announced that she would not be seeking a full term.

Candidate Lee raised eyebrows on the campaign trail after she argued that the minimum wage in the state of California needed to be raised to $50 per hour.

Lee was forced to defend the statement in a debate, with a moderator noting that this increase would be around seven times the federal minimum wage.

Lee said that she owned and ran a small business for 11 years, adding that "I know what worker productivity means and that means you have to make sure that your employees are taken care of and have a living wage."

Lee noted a recent report that stated in the Bay area "$127,000 for a family of four is just barely enough to get by. Another survey very recently, $104,000 for a family of one, barely enough to get by, low income because of the affordability crisis."

"Just do the math. Of course we have national minimum wages that we need to raise to a living wage," Lee said. "We’re talking about $20, $25 – fine. But I have got to be focused on what California needs and what the affordability factor is when we calculate this wage."

Adam Schiff’s victory speech on Tuesday evening was interrupted by pro-Palestinian protestors who demanded a ceasefire in Israel.

According to Fox News, as he attempted to introduce his family at his watch party, he was drowned out by protestors who chanted "ceasefire now" and "Free Palestine."
